Peel Regional Police say they are continuing their search for a suspect after a stabbing in a Mississauga, Ont., parking lot that left one man dead.
In a news release Saturday, Peel police said officers responded to reports of a stabbing at the rear of a commercial building near Hurontario Street and Agnes Street shortly after 12 p.m. on Tuesday.
The suspect and the victim were involved in a physical altercation, during which the victim was stabbed, according to Peel police.
Peel police acting Staff Sgt. Taylor Halfyard previously told reporters the victim stumbled toward the main road and collapsed. Residents provided first aid to the man before police, fire and paramedics arrived.
Investigators identified the victim as 32-year-old Chay Wilson, from Mississauga. Halfyard said the man was found in life-threatening condition. Peel police say he was pronounced dead at the scene.
“This is obviously concerning. What I can say is police officers responded quickly,” Halfyard said. “In my opinion, we have a very good grasp on the investigation so far.”
At the time, he said police had obtained a CCTV image of the suspect.
The suspect, a 28-year-old man of no fixed address, is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for second-degree murder.
Peel police said the man is described as having a medium build, short black hair and a black goatee. He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, a black zipped style jacket, fluorescent green pants, yellow Timberland-style boots and a black watch on his right wrist.
He is known to frequent the Hurontario Street and Dundas Street area, according to Peel police.
Investigators are urging him to seek legal counsel and surrender.
“The suspect should be considered armed and dangerous,” Peel police said in the release. “If seen, the public is advised not to approach and dial 9-1-1.”
A command post was previously set up on Agnes Street, west of the intersection with Hurontario Street. As a precautionary measure, nearby schools were placed in a hold and secure that lasted about an hour as police investigated.
