So six per cent of Albertans signed to separate and we are now going to have a referendum on it. I could get that many people to vote for lower gas or beef prices, better medical or schooling, or even to get root beer in all the government water fountains. Why are we even addressing this? If you don’t want to be Canadian the answer is simple: Leave! That’s the great thing about my country, nobody forces you to stay here. Just put on your Trump caps, drive south, and take your agenda with you.

Please, people, lower your fists and your temperature. Breaking up our beautiful country is not the answer. That whole Liberal flip-flop from “post-national society with no core identity” to “elbows up” thing really p***ed me off. But let’s remember where we came from and how we got here, meaning let’s stop tearing up our history so we don’t have to repeat it. I’m old enough to remember the Western Canada Concept and the lunacy of some of it. It seems we’re coming full circle again. It involved BC and Saskatchewan getting on board and they didn’t, rightfully so. In the end, Alberta wasn’t really interested either, but the grassroots political movement it inspired was a force to be reckoned with. Danielle Smith may not keep her job, but she’ll keep the country together and for that she should be congratulated.
