On the night Johnny Manziel was drafted by the Browns, he sent former Cleveland quarterback coach Dowell Loggains a message, vowing to “wreck this league.”
That never happened after the Browns pulled the trigger and selected the Heisman Trophy winner from Texas A&M at No. 22 overall in the 2014 NFL Draft.
Manziel was a tremendous flop, as he lasted just two seasons. He’s been in and out of the limelight since.
On May 23, after more than a decade since his time as a Browns QB, Manziel finally “wrecked” someone — on the mixed martial arts platform, of all places.
Manziel was the main event on a card promoted by Adin Ross’ Brand Risk Promotions that featured boxing and MMA bouts. Manziel, now 33, fought 38-year-old social media influencer Bob Menery in Las Vegas.
The fight lasted a little more than two minutes, and it was all Manziel.
Manziel used his height and weight advantage to dispose of Menery in a hurry. He landed several kicks, then got a takedown of Menery before Manziel finished off his opponent from a full mount, and the fight was stopped.
Afterward, Manziel said his venture into the MMA world was a one-off.
“This was good enough for one time,” he said on the YouTube.com broadcast.
In two seasons with the Browns in 2014 and 2015, Manziel threw for 1,675 yards and seven touchdowns before he was cut by the team in the 2016 offseason.
