The Calgary Flames links to Mavrik Bourque aren’t new, and with their need for centre’s moving forward and the chatter around Morgan Frost and his future, the 24-year-old is a tailor made fit for the Flames. While he starred in the AHL, it took Bourque some time to get acclimated at the NHL level, but in 2025/26, he did just that, posting career highs across the board in 82 games with 20 goals and 41 points.

Sure, there’s question marks over his size and how that will play in the NHL, but with the Flames needing depth down the middle and the questions over the future of Frost and Connor Zary, he could be just what this team needs moving forward.

Obviously, the Stars don’t want to lose one of their most exciting young players, especially after the breakout campaign that he just had, but if the Flames force the issue, they may be able to land a young centre with a very bright future in the NHL ahead.
