The Saskatchewan Roughriders are back in Regina after spending three weeks of training camp at Griffiths Stadium on the University of Saskatchewan campus in Saskatoon.
One topic that surfaced during camp was whether U Sports should change its rules and field dimensions to match the Canadian Football League when the CFL introduces changes in 2027.
Riders analyst Luc Mullinder doesn’t believe that’s necessary.
“I don’t think U Sports should adjust,” Mullinder said. “The CFL is a professional league and if players are good enough to get there, they’ll adapt.”
Mullinder pointed to NCAA players making the transition to the Canadian game despite differences like the wider field, one-yard neutral zone and motion rules.
“We have to remember only a small percentage of players get the chance to play in the CFL,” he said. “If they get that opportunity, they’ll make the adjustment.”
