Onelife Fitness is set to begin a $2 million expansion next week at its Ballston gym, constructing new spaces for exercise, recovery and physical therapy.
The fitness center on the third floor of Ballston Quarter will be expanding into vacant retail space below, adding about 12,000 square feet to double the center’s square footage dedicated to turf and strength training.
During construction, the gym at 4238 Wilson Blvd will receive a new recovery suite and free weights, as well as a new studio for physical therapy provider Jackson Clinics.
“We’re just continuing to elevate and continuing to invest in Northern Virginia, in Arlington, because this is our home,” CEO Ori Gorfine told ARLnow. “This is where we all live. It’s where we work out. We’re the largest operator in the DMV region, and so we just want to keep investing.”
The gym’s new recovery facilities include two new red light therapy studios along with a new compression therapy space that will use Normatec technology.
“[We’re] significantly doubling of the amount of turf space,” Gorfine said. “Most of that downstairs will be [a] strength and fitness floor, which I would say, again, is probably close to doubling.”
The two floors will be connected by a new set of stairs.
Gorfine said Onelife hopes to complete the project by January, with minimal disruptions for Onelife members on the third floor.
“Gym-goers should know that we are going to work our tails off to minimize any disruption,” Gorfine said. “We’re going to be doing the work downstairs, and most of the time, people won’t really see it or have any impact.”
The new project comes as Onelife plans to open a new fitness center in Ashburn and 15 other locations in North Carolina.
