Xiaomi has officially unveiled the new Xiaomi 17T and 17T Pro smartphones, both featuring Leica co-engineered camera systems aimed squarely at photography enthusiasts. The new devices continue Xiaomi’s long-running partnership with Leica, bringing imaging-focused hardware and software features to the company’s latest flagship phones.
Both smartphones feature triple-camera rear systems, although the Pro model gets a more advanced primary sensor and additional video capabilities.
Larger Sensors and Leica-Tuned Cameras
The standard Xiaomi 17T uses a 50-megapixel Type 1/1.55 main sensor paired with a 23mm equivalent F/1.7 lens. Meanwhile, the higher-end 17T Pro upgrades to a larger 50-megapixel Type 1/1.31 sensor while retaining the same focal length and aperture.
The larger sensor on the Pro model should provide better low-light performance, improved dynamic range, and cleaner image quality overall.
Leica 5x Telephoto Camera
Both smartphones share the same Leica-branded telephoto camera. It uses a 50-megapixel Type 1/2.76 sensor paired with a 115mm equivalent F/3 lens.
Xiaomi says the telephoto camera delivers 10x “optical-grade” zoom and also includes macro shooting functionality. There is also a 120x AI Ultra Zoom mode for additional reach using AI-assisted processing.
Ultra-Wide Camera and Leica Color Science
The ultra-wide camera on both models uses a 12-megapixel Type 1/3.06 sensor paired with a 15mm lens. It delivers a 120-degree field of view, making it suitable for landscapes, architecture, and travel photography.
Leica’s influence extends beyond the hardware as well. Xiaomi says the phones feature Leica UltraPure optics, Leica Summilux lens structure, and Leica-inspired portrait rendering and color science across all camera modules.
AI Features and Video Capabilities
Xiaomi has also introduced a new Leica Live Moment feature. Similar to Apple’s Live Photo system, it captures short video clips alongside photos and uses AI to automatically select the best still frame.
The Leica-inspired shooting experience also includes signature photo borders, portrait rendering styles, and customized image processing designed to emulate Leica’s visual character.
Video Recording and Performance
Both smartphones are capable of recording 4K video at up to 60 frames per second with HDR10+ support. The Xiaomi 17T Pro pushes things further with support for 4K120p slow motion and 8K30p recording.
The smartphones run Android 16 and are powered by MediaTek’s latest flagship chipsets. The Xiaomi 17T uses the Dimensity 8500 Ultra, while the 17T Pro gets the more powerful Dimensity 9500 processor.
Pricing and Availability
The Xiaomi 17T starts at €749, which is roughly $870. The more premium Xiaomi 17T Pro starts at €899, or around $1,045.
Both smartphones are expected to arrive globally in June.
