Ahead of the FIFA World Cup 26, Vancouver artist and devoted sports fan Seth Book — aka 800K — will be transforming a Vancouver city block into a vibrant community hub in collaboration with the Yaletown Business Improvement Association (BIA).
Book’s approach blends modern innovation with old-fashioned sweat equity by using devices like virtual-reality headsets and iPads to design work that he then painstakingly paints by hand.
Located in Helmcken Plaza, the project features seven hand-painted surfaces, including six sidewalls and the entire street block, to create a lively atmosphere for fans beyond the stadium.
The artwork will display 800K’s signature illustration style, featuring bold colours and abstract depictions of famous moments in World Cup history to create a stunning visual for fans to enjoy during the festivities. This documentary highlights the process behind this monumental piece of public art and dives into the headspace of the artist as he works hard to complete it in time for the World Cup.
