Ottawa Police say a six-year-old has died after being found in the Rideau River late Thursday afternoon near Hogs Back Falls.

The child was reported missing just after 5 p.m. according to police, and was found shortly after and pulled to shore. 

Bystanders, and then paramedics began life-saving efforts before transporting the child to hospital in critical, life-threatening condition. Paramedics say the child tragically died shortly after. 

Police say the investigation remains ongoing.
