National Truck Show to return to Cloverdale Fairgrounds July 11

The National Truck Show returns to the Cloverdale Fairgrounds July 11.
Coupled with Hot Rod Saturday, the B.C. Vintage Truck Museum will host its annual event both inside and outside the museum, adjacent to the Elements Casino parking lot.
While the truck show takes place outside the B.C. Vintage Truck Museum, the museum will also be open for self-guided tours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. that day, showcasing the museum’s many vintage vehicles and thousands upon thousands of items of memorabilia.
The museum parks some of its vehicles outside too and they get upwards of 50 or more vehicles down for the show n’ shine portion of the event.
Anna Dean, museum president, said their show n’ shine is free this year.
“There’s no registration fee,” Dean said. “We register the trucks, but we’re not charging anything this year. Some of them come from way out of town and, with the price of gas and everything, it adds up.”
She said the National Truck Show serves multiple purposes. It both educates and entertains the public about transportation history and it raises much-needed funds for the volunteer-run museum.
Dean noted they’ll have their new Jersey Milk truck on display. The museum was gifted the old milk truck from a museum in North Van last year. She said it has a lot of history attached to it. The truck was kept inside after an $80,000 restoration. So, it’s in very good condition.
The museum was also recently gifted a Baldwin Contracting Company 1948 Hayes logging truck. The classic piece of B.C. history was restored, maintained, and donated by a member of the Vancouver Island Industrial Heritage Society of Port Alberni.
“It’s just in pristine shape,” noted Dean. “It doesn’t need anything at all.”
Other exhibits for the show will include rare vehicles from private owners around the province.
The museum will also be selling hot dogs and drinks July 11, with all funds going to support the non-profit museum.
Dean encouraged everyone to come down and check out the truck show, the show n’ shine, and the museum itself.
“There’s no truck museum that I know of—certainly I don’t think anywhere in Canada—like this one. It’s one of a kind.”
The National Truck Show will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 11. At the same time, the B.C. Hot Rod Association will host its “Hot Rod Saturday” event across the parking lot adjacent to Elements Casino.
The B.C. Vintage Truck Museum is open every Wednesday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The museum is located on the Cloverdale Fairgrounds at 6022 176th Street. Admission is by donation.
