CONCORD, N.C. (WBTV) – A NASCAR team said it was “aware of” an employee’s recent arrest at Charlotte Motor Speedway, which resulted in an indefinite suspension.
The alleged incident happened on Saturday, May 23, when 35-year-old Evanna Howell was accused of assaulting a man with a golf cart. A Concord police report revealed the man was 77 years old and sustained a “severe laceration” at the race track.
Howell was arrested that same day and was charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. She was taken to the Cabarrus County jail and was released on May 26, after she posted a $125,000 bond.
NASCAR released its weekly penalty report the day after she was released from jail. The report said Howell had been suspended indefinitely for a “behavioral” issue.
Howell’s LinkedIn showed she is a senior account manager at 23XI Racing, which is co-owned by Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin.
23XI Racing confirmed Howell is a member of the business operations team and said it was aware of the alleged incident that resulted in her arrest and suspension. The team said it would have no further comment.
WBTV asked the race team if Howell was still employed but had not gotten a response as of this writing.
23XI Racing fields three full-time cars in the NASCAR Cup Series, driven by Bubba Wallace, Tyler Reddick and Riley Herbst.
The Cup Series will be back in action Sunday, May 31 at Nashville Superspeedway.
