A large park in Mississauga’s east end welcomed a new four-court tennis facility last summer.

Now, as summer 2026 fast approaches, plans are underway for a number of additional improvements at Garnetwood Park, the city says.

Mississauga Ward 3 Coun. Chris Fonseca said in an online update to the community earlier this week that City of Mississauga staff recently provided her with the latest information on the “incredible amenities” planned for the well-used park.

Located alongside Etobicoke Creek at 1996 Rathburn Rd. E., near Burnhamthorpe Road East and Ponytrail Drive, the park already features the revamped tennis courts, basketball nets, a leash-free zone, mobile food vendor, multi-use court, a playground, soccer field, softball diamond and a spray pad.

Among the planned upgrades this year, based on feedback from the community, are two new paths to be added to the trail system, four-season seating/tables, pickleball courts and a renovated spray pad.

Fonseca said the spray pad will be open for public use this summer, but didn’t provide a specific timeline for completion of the other upgrades.

The City of Mississauga, along with Tennis Canada and National Bank, opened the renovated Garnetwood Park Tennis Courts last June. The four-court tennis facility received the makeover through National Bank’s Play Your Court program.

The initiative, a joint venture between National Bank and Tennis Canada, was launched in 2022 in response to “a growing demand for tennis and a need to revitalize many existing outdoor community courts across the country,” officials with the organizations said earlier in an online description of the program.

Essentially, they added, the goal is to make tennis more accessible for all Canadians.

 

City officials said at last summer’s tennis courts opening the improvements “not only enhance access to quality recreational infrastructure, but also aim to inspire more people, young and old, to pick up a racquet and experience the many benefits of tennis.”
