From coffee shops and family-run eateries to longtime neighbourhood favourites, it’s always tough to say goodbye to local spots that became part of people’s routines.
Here are three spots in Mississauga and Brampton that have closed in May.
The Second Cup Coffee Co. at Heartland Town Centre has served its final customers.
Known for its coffee, espresso-based beverages, tea lattes and baked goods, the café was a popular stop for shoppers visiting the large retail complex.
“We’re saddened to share that the Heartland Second Cup café has made the difficult decision to close its doors permanently,” the company’s head office said in a statement.
The company said the decision reflected factors unique to the independently owned franchise location. Four other Second Cup locations remain open in Mississauga.
A family-run Italian restaurant is closing after nearly 20 years in Brampton.
That Italian Place, located at 470 Chrysler Dr., was founded by Gino Fuda in 2006 and became known for its Southern Italian family recipes, including pasta dishes, sandwiches, hot table meals and catering platters.
“It has been a privilege for our family to serve you all for so many years,” the restaurant said in a social media post announcing the closure.
While the Brampton location is shut down on May 30, the business said catering operations will continue and that it hopes to open a new location in the future.
A popular Mexican restaurant in Mississauga’s Streetsville neighbourhood has quietly closed after more than a decade in business.
Border MX, located at 277 Queen St. S., is now listed as permanently closed on Google.
The restaurant opened in 2014 and became known for its birria tacos, wet burritos, enchiladas, chimichangas, fajitas and churros, along with live music nights and an open-air patio.
The closure follows a difficult year for the business after a burst pipe caused significant water damage throughout the restaurant in 2025.
While the company has not formally announced the closure, Border MX has not posted on social media since October 2025 and it remains unclear whether the restaurant plans to reopen in another location.
