A stretch of Atwater Ave. in Montreal was closed Saturday afternoon, forcing vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians to detour around the busy section.
The closing affects Atwater Ave. between René-Lévesque Blvd. and Ste-Antoine St., according to Johany Charland, a spokesperson for the Montreal police.
The closing was put in place following an incident involving the nearby viaduct, Charland said.
“The information that we had is that something fell off the overpass,” Charland said, adding this is all the information the police had at the time.
She declined to comment on the condition of the structure or whether there were any concerns about its integrity.
The Montreal fire department has been contacted for comment.
It was not immediately clear how long the closing would remain in place.
