The Winnipeg Jets may have another two-sport athlete on their hands.

Goaltender Eric Comrie is the latest Jets player to be invited to hit the links for the Manitoba Open, an official PGA Tour Americas Fortinet Cup event, the team announced Thursday.

Comrie has been granted a sponsor’s exemption and will compete as an amateur alongside professionals. The tournament will take place from Aug. 21-24 at the Breezy Bend Country Club, just outside Winnipeg.

“I’m very excited to play in this year’s Manitoba Open. Golf has become such a passion of mine in recent years and the opportunity to play with professionals who are on the verge of becoming tomorrow’s stars is a special opportunity,” Comrie said in a statement.

“I’m really looking forward to the challenge of competing in such an important event to the community of Winnipeg and Manitoba.”

It’s become a tradition for the Jets to send a player to the Manitoba Open, with Mark Scheifele in 2018 and 2022, Kyle Connor in 2019, and Morgan Barron in 2023 all gearing up for the four-day tournament.

The Manitoba Open and the Winnipeg Jets/True North Sports & Entertainment began its partnership in 2013 after the PGA Tour acquired the Canadian Tour, rebranding it to the PGA Tour Canada.

American Johnny Keefer won the tournament in 2024, with Jets invitee Dylan Samberg unable to make the cut after finishing with a plus-10.

The tournament, which dates back to 1919, has had champions that include Moe Norman, George Knudson and current PGA Tour player C.T. Pan.

PGA Tour Americas serves as a developmental circuit, with its top players moving on to the Korn Ferry Tour and potentially the PGA Tour.
