The Montreal Canadiens’ 2026 offseason is shaping up to be a busy one.
And it appears that Patrik Laine has reached the end of his tenure with the Canadiens organization.”According to my sources, Patrik Laine will never play another National Hockey League game in a Montreal Canadiens uniform. Whether he’s healthy, fully healthy, or partially injured, he will not play another game under Martin St. Louis, under the watch of Jeff Gorton and Kent Hughes.
I don’t know what happened or why, but a decision has been made.”
– Jean Trudel
Patrik Laine is indeed expected to leave Montreal this summer, according to Jean Trudel’s information
Let’s remember that Patrik Laine did not participate in a single game during the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The Finnish forward practiced with the extra players throughout the entire postseason.
Yet he officially remained on the injured list!
Clearly, a definitive organizational decision has been made.
Many had already been questioning Laine’s future with the Canadiens.
His regular season was marked by injuries and difficulties adapting.
For Patrik Laine personally, this is probably a difficult reality to accept.
The Finn was acquired by the Canadiens in August 2024 as part of a major trade that notably involved Jordan Harris.
And expectations were high that he would help transform Montreal’s offense!
It remains to be seen how Kent Hughes will handle the Patrik Laine situation during the 2026 offseason.
And whether the Finnish forward will indeed leave the organization in order to revive his career with another NHL team.
