A 24-year-old Brampton man has died after a canoe capsized on a lake in eastern Ontario over the weekend.
Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to Upper Rideau Lake shortly after 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 30, following reports of a marine distress incident involving a capsized canoe.
Upper Rideau Lake is located in the Rideau Lakes region of eastern Ontario, approximately 300 kilometres east of Toronto and about 90 kilometres southwest of Ottawa.
Emergency crews, including Leeds County OPP officers, Leeds and Grenville Paramedic Service and the Rideau Lakes Fire Department, responded to the scene.
Police said the individual was located and transported to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The deceased has been identified as a 24-year-old man from Brampton. His name has not been released.
Investigators said the man was not wearing a personal flotation device at the time of the incident.
A postmortem examination is expected to be conducted as part of the ongoing investigation.
The circumstances surrounding the canoe capsizing have not been released.
