The bar at Royal Canadian Legion Branch 25 was filled to capacity Monday night during the first Seniors Got Talent showcase
The Legion Branch 25 bar was full Monday evening for the first-ever Seniors Got Talent showcase.
A total of 14 acts took the stage to show off dancing, singing and playing instruments, with prize money on the line.
Bill Nash, sports chair for Royal Canadian Legion Branch 25, emceed the free event. He said the capacity crowd in the Legion bar was the largest he has since since the building opened.
The acts were evaluated by a panel of four judges, but scores could be boosted through ‘tips’ from the audience. In the end, $1,032 was raised for prize money and split between the top three finishers.
In the end, half the pot went to first-place finisher Tim Lavoie, who dressed as Elvis Presley and sang Blue Suede Shoes. Later, Lavoie sang an encore of Don’t Be Cruel.
Second-place finisher Jim Scali and third-place Marlene Mooney split the remaining cash price 60/40.
Judges included Tim Murphy, Lou Turco, Steve Roussain and Andrew Stuetz.
For a fee, audience members were able to take over one of the judging spots, with that money also going toward the prize total.
Based on the attendance, Nash said the Legion will likely hold another Seniors Got Talent competition in the future.
