Southland’s Marshall Erwood, Nick Kergozou, and Tom Sexton have been named in the New Zealand cycling contingent for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Three Southland cyclists have booked tickets to the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Nick Kergozou, Tom Sexton, and Marshall Erwood – who all hail from Invercargill – have been included in the 19-strong cycling contingent to contest track cycling events at the Commonwealth Games, which will run from July 23 to August 2.
The Southland trio are part of a group of New Zealand men’s endurance riders that also includes Keegan Hornblow, George Jackson and Daniel Morton.
Kergozou is set to line up in the men’s Elimination Race with an option to start in the men’s Time Trial, Men’s Points Race, Men’s Scratch Race and the Men’s Team Pursuit
Sexton has been marked down for the Men’s Individual Pursuit with an option to start in the Men’s Points Race, Men’s Elimination Race, Men’s Scratch Race and the Men’s Team Pursuit.
Erwood has also been highlighted for the Men’s Individual Pursuit with an option to start in the Men’s Points Race, Men’s Elimination Race, Men’s Scratch Race and the Men’s Team Pursuit
Final entries to starting events will be confirmed prior to the competition.
The Scottish sporting city and aptly named Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome has been a happy hunting ground for Kiwi track cyclists who earned 11 medals at the 2014 edition of the Commonwealth Games.
It was also home to New Zealand’s most successful UCI Track World Championships three years ago when kiwi track riders amassed a record eight medals.
