Getting around downtown Toronto could be difficult for drivers on World Cup game days, with closures and local traffic only on some streets.

Toronto is hosting six matches during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and the city has implemented a “Transit-First” strategy urging guests to use the TTC to get to the games.

Part of that strategy includes road closures in the area, which will start five hours before the match starts and last until at least three hours after the match ends.

Matches will be played at BMO Field at Exhibition Place, and will see a stretch of Lakeshore Boulevard closed from Bathurst Street to British Columbia Road on game days.

Strachan Avenue will also be closed from King Street to Lakeshore, with only local traffic allowed on Dufferin Street between King and Lakeshore. Liberty Street and arterial roads will also be closed to local traffic only.

“Walk, bike or take public transit. There is no parking at or near the venue,” FIFA says.

There will also be closures to local traffic in the Fort York area for the FIFA Fan Festival.

Here are the expected times for all the World Cup game day closures:

June 12 – 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
June 17 – 3 p.m. to 12 a.m.
June 20 – noon to 9 p.m.
June 23 – 3 p.m. to 12 a.m.
June 26 – 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
July 2 – 3 p.m. to 12 a.m.

FIFA has also released tips and a trip planner for guests to get around on game days.

Canada Soccer unveiled its 26-player squad on Friday, with head coach Jesse Marsch announcing the selections during a nationally televised special. Each player’s name was displayed on the CN Tower’s EdgeWalk platform overlooking Toronto, one of the host cities for the 2026 tournament.

Among those selected are Brampton natives Tajon Buchanan, Jonathan Osorio, Cyle Larin and Promise David, along with Liam Millar, who grew up in Brampton before moving to England at age 13.
