A new kindergarten to Grade 8 school is planned for Winnipeg’s Devonshire Park community, with space for about 800 students when it opens in September 2027.
The school will be located at 35 Private Davy Dr. and is part of a broader provincial effort to expand capacity in growing neighbourhoods, according to Education and Early Childhood Learning Minister Tracy Schmidt.
The project is one of 11 new schools announced in Budget 2025.
The development also includes child care spaces within the same building, intended to serve infants, preschoolers, and school-aged children in an integrated setting.

‘Cornerstone of our communities’
River East Transcona School Division board chair Colleen Carswell says the new school will play an important role in the expanding community.
“River East Transcona School Division is excited to welcome a new school to the Devonshire area. Schools are the cornerstone of our communities, bringing families together and fostering connection, growth, and belonging,” Carswell said.
She added that the school will reduce the need to transport students outside the neighbourhood.
“This means that students currently being transported out of the neighbourhood, as well as others within the growing Devonshire community, will have the opportunity to learn close to home, discovering their talents, forming friendships and creating lasting memories in their own neighbourhood.”
Child care integration
The project also includes on-site child care services for families, which federal Northern and Arctic Affairs Minister Rebecca Chartrand says will help reduce pressure on parents.
“Families will have access to high-quality child care close to home and to their workplace, helping them save time and money,” Chartrand said.
