Brampton resident, 33, expected to appear in Orillia court today after body found Tuesday night in nature park

UPDATE (3:05 p.m.): A Brampton resident has been charged with second-degree murder in relation to this incident.

Devon Alamina, 33, was arrested and charged, Orillia OPP stated in a news release this afternoon. The accused is set to appear in Orillia court today (June 3).

“Investigators believe there is no ongoing threat to public safety. Residents can expect to see an increased police presence in the area of Scout Valley Trail off Old Barrie Road as the investigation continues,” police said in the release.

Orillia OPP officers are investigating a suspicious death in Scout Valley, a nature park off Old Barrie Road in west Orillia.

On Tuesday, at approximately 7:10 p.m., officers were called to Scout Valley, where one person was located deceased.

“While the cause of death cannot yet be confirmed, the OPP is urging local residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any recent or ongoing suspicious activity to police,” police stated in a release.

Residents can expect to see an increased police presence as officers continue the investigation.

The OPP was asked several questions about where the deceased person was found, the person’s age, if a suspect was at large, if there are any concerns for public safety, and how long the park would remain closed.

“At this time we are unable to share any further information as its an active investigation,” said Ashley Taylor, regional media and communications co-ordinator for Central Region OPP.

The Orillia OPP Crime Unit is conducting this investigation under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
