A 67-year-old man is charged with sexual assault after three incidents on the same day last week in Winnipeg’s St. Boniface area, including two near a school, involving several girls and a woman in her 20s.
Police say a man confronted two teenage girls walking in the area of Horace and Des Meurons streets just before noon on May 25. He started to grab them, sexually assaulting both in the process, police said in a news release on Thursday.
The girls escaped but the man continued to follow them until they sought help at a nearby school.
Police did not name the school, but Springs Christian Academy, a preschool to Grade 12 school, is in that area.
Just after noon, a group of girls who were out for recess at a school on Youville Street — where Springs Christian Academy is located — were approached by a man who commented on their appearance. The girls ran away and reported the incident to staff, police said.
About a half hour later, a woman in her 20s who was mowing her lawn in the nearby Archwood neighbourhood was approached by a man who took hold of the lawn mower and sexually assaulted the woman, the news release said.
She escaped and contacted police.
The 67-year-old man was arrested the next day while walking on Edgewood Street near Youville, about two blocks from Springs Christian Academy.
He is charged with three counts of sex assault and has been released from custody.
CBC reached out to Springs Christian Academy, which declined to comment.
