Surrey Pride festival moves back to Central City Plaza on June 20

Surrey Pride’s 2026 festival will return to Central City Plaza on Saturday, June 20 with a day of entertainment and rainbow-hued celebration.
Last year’s festival was held at Surrey Civic Plaza, outside city hall, but a Surrey Soccer Fan Zone will be busy there for a month-plus starting Thursday, June 11, for FIFA World Cup action.
“We’re back to Central City Plaza this year, where we’ve been before,” confirmed Martin Rooney, a Pride fest co-founder.
“This is Pride #27, and we’re there (at Central City) until Pride #30, for the next few years, because we have a long-term deal with them,” he added. “Our 20-by-30-foot flag is once again going up inside the mall. That’s a big deal, and there’ll be a Pride flag pole on the plaza, too.”
Festival entertainment this year features drag performers, DJ dance music, Music City Showcase artists, Matthew Presidente, Stephen Scaccia & The Pride Collective and more, from noon until around 6 p.m.
“I’ll be hosting and performing again, and we have a stellar cast,” said Surrey Pride president Donald Crowe, who performs as Myria Le Noir. “We’re bringing in impersonators from all over B.C., all with roots to Surrey, connected here, which we really like.”
Crowe said the annual festival “isn’t political, it’s a party” that draws people and volunteers from around B.C.
“People come to enjoy themselves, celebrate, and I’m very excited to be part of it,” he said during a Pride Festival kickoff event on Civic Hotel’s rooftop deck May 28, days before vandals painted over the rainbow crosswalk at nearby Holland Park.
Rooney said the Surrey festival is a safe place to celebrate Pride.
“We have to be very cautious moving forward about how the political environment ends up turning out here in Canada,” he said. “You just have to look south of the border where they’re de-trans-ing everybody and they’re ripping rainbow crosswalks off streets and not allowing Pride flags to fly. It just brings back all those haunting memories of the early fight for civil and equal rights.”

“Skye Avenue & Lounge, our food and beverage sponsor, will have their patio open for reservations,” Rooney noted. “The show will be livestreamed inside too.”
This fall, Surrey Pride hosts another “So YOU Think YOU can DRAG” fundraiser Saturday, Oct. 3 at the Sheraton hotel in Guildford. The winner gets up to $5,000 in matching funds. To get involved and raise money for an organization or charity, email mandmxv@gmail.com.
