Estevan Youth Soccer is getting set to welcome hundreds of athletes to the city this weekend, as the club hosts its own tournament at Cactus Park on Sunday.
President Jason Bresciani says it’s shaping up to be a full day of action, with strong participation from across multiple age groups.
Full day of soccer at Cactus Park
More than 250 young athletes are expected to take part in the event, spanning divisions from U9 through U15. “We’ve got just over 250 kids coming to play,” Bresciani said. “That’s from U9 up to U15, so it’s going to be a busy day.”
Each division will see multiple teams competing, including four teams in U9, five teams in both U11 and U13, and four teams rounding out the U15 category.
Games are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. and will run throughout the day, wrapping up in the early evening around 6 to 6:30 p.m.
Big turnout expected
With players, coaches, and families all involved, Cactus Park is expected to be packed for much of the day.
That kind of turnout brings plenty of energy to the fields, something Bresciani says is key for the athletes. “It’s going to be busy; the fields are going to be full,” he said.
Opportunity for players and community
Beyond the competition, the tournament provides young players a chance to showcase their skills at home while enjoying the atmosphere that comes with a larger event.
Bresciani noted that tournaments like this help build confidence and encourage development, while also giving the community a chance to come out and support local athletes.
With a full schedule of games and teams from across the region, Sunday’s event marks one of the bigger local soccer days of the season in Estevan.
