A night of boxing, entertainment and community impact is coming to Wittenberg this weekend as Ho-Chunk Gaming Wittenberg partners with Williams House of Hope for Fight Night: Brawl in the Backwoods. The event, organized by Quicksilver Hill Sports and Entertainment, will feature local and regional boxers competing in the ring while raising money for a cause outside of it. “We’re having a boxing event tomorrow. They can expect a lot of excitement,” said Jessica White Wing-Clark, Public Relations Manager. “Entertainment is going to be off the hook. It’s one of my favorite events that we have because of the energy of the boxers.” A portion of every ticket sold will benefit Williams House of Hope, a nonprofit organization that provides support and resources for individuals experiencing homelessness.
WITTENBERG, Wis. (WAOW) – A night of boxing, entertainment and community impact is coming to Wittenberg this weekend as Ho-Chunk Gaming Wittenberg partners with Williams House of Hope for Fight Night: Brawl in the Backwoods.
The event, organized by Quicksilver Hill Sports and Entertainment, will feature local and regional boxers competing in the ring while raising money for a cause outside of it.
“We’re having a boxing event tomorrow. They can expect a lot of excitement,” said Jessica White Wing-Clark, Public Relations Manager. “Entertainment is going to be off the hook. It’s one of my favorite events that we have because of the energy of the boxers.”
A portion of every ticket sold will benefit Williams House of Hope, a nonprofit organization that provides support and resources for individuals experiencing homelessness.
“Just know that every ticket is going towards a great cause,” says Nicole Barron, owner of Williams House of Hope.
For organizers, the event is also an opportunity to showcase Wisconsin boxing talent and give local athletes a platform to compete.
“We want to give kids in the local area an opportunity to shine,” says Virgil Hill, Boxer Promoters Quicksilver Hill Sports & Entertainment. “We want them to come out and see the talent that they have in Wisconsin.”
Quicksilver Hill Sports and Entertainment is led by husband-and-wife team Virgil and Denean Hill, both Olympians who say their experiences have shaped their commitment to creating opportunities for young athletes.
“My wife is a four-time Olympian and I’m an Olympian. We met in the 1984 Olympics,” says Virgil. “We understand and we know the feelings.”
The organization’s long-term goal is to help increase opportunities for Native American athletes and encourage greater representation at the Olympic level.
“Our ultimate goal is to help Native athletes be represented in the Olympics on the Olympic team as their own country,” says Denean Hill.
While athletes in Wisconsin may not have access to the same year-round opportunities as those in larger states, Hill believes success is still within reach.
“They can, just because they don’t have as many opportunities as everybody else, but you can succeed,” says Virgil.
Nicole Barron with Williams House of Hope hopes community members will come out not only to enjoy the fights but also to support those in need.
“Help us in the fight to help our unhoused,” says Barron.
A free public weigh-in will take place Friday night. Fight Night: Brawl in the Backwoods is scheduled for Saturday at Ho-Chunk Gaming Wittenberg.
