The halfway point of 2026 is upon us, and already there’s been a plethora of excellent heavy metal and hard rock albums released this year.

Most unexpected, Neurosis returned with a new singer, Aaron Turner, and surprise-released a stellar comeback album titled An Undying Love for a Burning World. 

Meanwhile, hard-rock staples like Evanescence, Sevendust, Alter Bridge, and Rob Zombie each delivered topnotch albums.

And veteran extreme acts like Immolation, Mayhem, and Darkthrone proved that they’re still as vital as ever decades into their careers.
