Dangerous thunderstorms capable of producing wind gusts of up to 90 km/h could develop over Montreal this afternoon and evening, Environment Canada has said in a severe weather warning.
Environment Canada said the storms, combined with showers already forecast for the region, could produce significant rainfall amounts.
“Damage to roofs, fences, branches or soft shelters is possible,” the agency said.
The agency urged residents to secure loose objects and seek shelter indoors if thunderstorms develop. It noted that lightning kills and injures Canadians every year.
