One person is dead and three others sent to hospital after two separate fires in Winnipeg’s inner city between Friday afternoon and Saturday morning.
Firefighters responded to a report of a fire at a two-storey apartment building on Ross Avenue, between Ellen and Isabel streets, shortly before 1:30 p.m. on Friday, the city said in a news release.

Several hours later, firefighters responded to a fire at a two-storey house on Flora Avenue, between Powers and McGregor streets, at 3:14 a.m. on Saturday, the city says in the same release.
Heavy smoke and flames were coming from the house when crews arrived. Firefighters rescued three residents who were trapped inside, according to the release.
All three residents were taken to hospital after paramedics assessed them. One person was transported in unstable condition, two were in stable condition, the release says.
The fire, which is being investigated, was declared under control at 3:40 a.m. The city says damage estimates aren’t available.
