Calgary police are investigating two shootings that left three men seriously injured.
Officers were called to the 1300 block of 14th Ave S.W. shortly before 11 p.m. Friday, said Calgary police Staff Sgt. John Guigon.
Police found two male victims with gunshot-related injuries at a Beltline apartment building. Both were taken to Foothills Medical Centre in serious condition but have since been upgraded to non-life-threatening, according to police.
Then, shortly after 3 a.m. Saturday, officers responded to a shooting incident in the 400 block of 5th Ave S.E., where they found a man with gunshot-related injuries. He was taken to hospital in serious condition and is now stable, Guigon said.
Investigators have not yet determined whether the shootings were targeted or random, but Guigon said both incidents bear “the hallmarks” of targeted shootings.
“There (was) no robbery … no theft from (the victims), nothing like that,” he said. “Typically, a random shooting has something to do with another offence occurring.”
No arrests have been made as of Saturday morning, and police do not currently believe the two shootings, which occurred about five hours apart, are connected.
“At this point we’re looking at them as two separate incidents,” Guigon said.
The incidents bring the number of reported shootings in Calgary to at least four in the past four days.
Police continue investigating a shooting in Forest Lawn early Friday morning after a man suffering from a gunshot wound sought help at a residence on 44th Street S.E. near Forest Lawn High School.
The victim was taken to hospital in stable condition, and investigators believe the shooting was targeted.
Earlier in the week, a 35-year-old man, suffered life-altering injuries after being shot in the lower stomach in Connaught Park, 1135 14th Ave. S.W., shortly before 4 p.m. Wednesday.
Guigon described the recent string of shootings as unusual.
“The amount of these (shootings) occurring in this short span is not typical at all,” he said.
