A 60-year-old man was critically injured after being struck by a vehicle while crossing the street in Montreal’s Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie borough Saturday night.
Montreal police (SPVM) say they received several 911 calls just before midnight reporting a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian on Papineau Avenue near St-Zotique Street East.
Upon arrival, officers found the victim on the ground in a semi-conscious state with several injuries. He was taken to hospital in a critical condition. Doctors later declared him as out of danger.
Police say the driver of the vehicle, a 22-year-old woman, was in a state of shock and not injured.
SPVM spokesperson Johany Charland said, according to initial reports, the vehicle was travelling southbound on Papineau Avenue when it struck a pedestrian crossing the street.
Investigators established a security perimeter at the scene, which has since been cleared.
“There is no evidence to suggest a criminal act was the cause of the incident,” Charland said.
The investigation is ongoing and the SPVM’s Collision Unit will determine the circumstances surrounding the event.
