A TALENTED Inverclyde boxer says the chance to compete at Celtic Park was a ‘dream come true’.
Robbie McMaster was one of the fighters chosen to represent his country in the Boxing Alliance Scotland’s ‘Wrath of the Nations’ Scotland v England show at the Parkhead club’s Kerrydale Suite.

What made Robbie’s appearance – and victory – even more impressive was that it came after the Inverclyde Boxing Club competitor was forced to spend eight months out of the ring.
Part of that absence was the result of ligament damage in his elbow sustained during a previous bout, though his return to action has also been hampered by not one but two of his recent opponents pulling out of their scheduled contests.

Robbie was matched against a boxer from Essex who was a year older and had more than double his experience – but Robbie overcame the odds to register a superb win that was greeted with joy by the family and friends who had travelled from Inverclyde to cheer him on.

Robbie said: “It’s a dream come true to be able to have boxed and won at Celtic Park, on my biggest stage yet as an amateur boxer in front of such a big crowd.

“My friends and family being there made it even better.”
Robbie is now back in training alongside seven of his IBC team-mates as they prepare to compete in the annual William Wallace Box Cup, which this year takes place at the Raploch Community Campus in Stirling on the weekend of July 4 and 5.
