Estevan’s soccer pitches were packed with energy this weekend as the Estevan Youth Soccer Association hosted a regional festival, drawing teams from across southeast Saskatchewan for a full day of competition, development, and community connection.
Players ranging from U9 to U17 hit the fields throughout the day, showcasing the depth of youth talent in the region and highlighting the continued growth of the sport locally.
Regional teams travel in
Communities from across the southeast were represented at the event, including the Quad Town area, Vibank, Sedley, Odessa, and Francis, along with Indian Head, Kipling, Carlyle, Stoughton, and Carievale. “We hosted just a fun festival with the communities in around Estevan,” said president Jason Bresciani. “From under-nine, eight and nine-year-olds, all the way up to 15, 16, 17-year-olds.”
The mix of visiting teams and local squads created a busy atmosphere across multiple pitches, with games running throughout the day.
Battling heat and field conditions
Weather played a factor early on, with damp fields from earlier conditions before temperatures climbed. “Hot, humid, the rain stayed away,” Bresciani said. “It was a little slushy at the beginning of the morning, but I think everybody had fun.”
Despite the conditions, players pushed through a full schedule, while spectators stayed engaged and food trucks added to the festival feel.
Strong results across divisions
Local teams turned in solid performances across several age groups. “If I remember right, our under-nines split into two teams and they both finished top two,” said Bresciani.
Older age groups also showed strong efforts. “Our U11s had a really strong day,” he said, adding that the U13 squad found its stride as the event went on. “Our U13 started off pretty quiet, but picked it up by the end of the day.”
One of the standout results came at the U15 level. “The U15s, we went 3–0 on the day.”
Focus remains on fun and community
While wins and losses were part of the day, the overall focus stayed on enjoyment, development, and bringing communities together through sport. “It was just, everybody had fun, battled the heat, food trucks were amazing,” said Bresciani. “It seemed like everybody enjoyed themselves.”
Events like this continue to build momentum for youth soccer in Estevan and the surrounding area, offering young athletes valuable experience and a chance to connect with players from across the region.
