Police have laid charges in relation to a fourth shooting that was reported in Calgary last weekend.
At around 3 a.m. on Sunday, Calgary police responded to reports a man had allegedly been shot outside the Samosa House restaurant in the city’s northeast. Police said they believe the shooting was a result of an altercation outside the nearby Head Over Heels lounge in the same plaza on 104 Ave. N.E. near Metis Trail.
Police said the suspect was seen fleeing the scene in a grey Dodge Charger at a high speed before they arrived, but was later arrested at a traffic stop. Police added they found a loaded 9-mm handgun in the suspect’s car.
The victim of the shooting was found to be uninjured, police said.
The incident followed three other shootings during the same weekend, which were reported in different parts of Calgary across a 24-hour period between Friday and Saturday.
The suspect in the Sunday morning shooting, a 22-year-old man, faces one count each of discharging a firearm with intent and unauthorized possession of a firearm. He was scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
Police added they are looking for two other suspects in connection to the shooting, describing both as men between 20 and 30 years old.
There is no information linking the four shootings, police said on Monday, or connecting any of the incidents to organized crime. Police added they believe the shooter and victim knew each other in each incident.
Calgary police said they have investigated 39 shootings this year. Last year, 30 incidents of firearms being discharged with intent were reported, Calgary police stats indicate, and the city has seen a five-year average from 2021 to 2025 of roughly 57.
