Revelstoke’s bike week gets 429 riders, 16,295 km on the road

Revelstoke’s dedicated week for cyclists saw hundreds of riders register for the roads, thousands of klicks clocked, and more than 1,000 heads attend the city’s celebration station.
Spring Go By Bike Week, which ran from Saturday, May 30, to Friday, June 5, prompted 429 people to sign up to cycle and form a total 78 biker teams. This included 156 new or first-time riders.

Making nearly 1,700 two-wheeled trips, these active transportation users logged an impressive 16,295 kilometres in and around town.
In just a week, Go By Bike BC says this saved more than 1,500 kilograms (1.5 metric tonnes) of greenhouse gases otherwise emitted by gas-powered motor vehicles.
The City of Revelstoke’s dedicated set-up for celebrating cycling, hosted outside the Revelstoke Community and Aquatic Centre on June 1, 3 and 5 for two hours each morning, brought out another 1,075 people, according to the parks, recreation and culture department.
