WNBA to Fine Skylar Diggins $500 After Chicago Sky Game

The Chicago Sky lost in their first meeting against Angel Reese and her new team, the Atlanta Dream, on Tuesday night.

Reese, who was traded from the Sky to the Dream during the offseason, made sure to show her former team what they were missing. She finished with a monster double-double of 17 points and 17 rebounds, along with four assists and two steals, to lead Atlanta to an 82-75 victory.

Skylar Diggins led Chicago with 17 points, three rebounds, three assists and one steal, while Natasha Cloud had 18 points. However, their efforts were not enough to take down a deep Atlanta squad.

Making matters worse for Diggins, she received a technical foul during the game, which now puts her in line for a penalty from the WNBA.

In the second quarter of the game, Diggins attempted to attack the basket but missed after absorbing significant contact from Dream guard Jordin Canada. The Sky veteran, however, thought she was fouled and quickly complained to the referee about the non-call.

As Diggins kept complaining, the referee hit her with a technical foul.

According to the WNBA’s rules, players pay a $500 fine for each of their first three technical fouls. It was Diggins’ second of the season.

Diggins certainly needs to avoid getting any more techs, since the fourth to seventh technical fouls carry a $1,000 fine each. Anything beyond that carries a $1,500 and a one-game suspension.

The Sky dropped to 4-8 on the season with their latest loss, which is a disappointing turn after the team got off to a 3-1 start.
