An insider believes that trading away a Calder Cup-winning centerman could be a possibility for the Vancouver Canucks before training camp begins in mid-September.

It’s been a very busy summer for the Vancouver Canucks and General Manager Patrik Allvin, with the club making three trades within the last three weeks, most recently on Thursday when Dakota Joshua was dealt to the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Vancouver Canucks aren’t expected to slow down anytime soon, as they monitor the free agent market, but when it comes to their own roster currently, the team may have some more difficult decisions to make in the weeks ahead.

Vancouver Canucks may have tough decision to make with Calder Cup-winning centerman

During an appearance on Daily Faceoff earlier this week, NHL insider Jeff Marek wondered if the Vancouver Canucks would be able to sneak Linus Karlsson through waivers towards the end of training camp, if he doesn’t make the opening night roster.Karlsson, along with a handful of other Vancouver Canucks, became waiver eligible this summer and in order to assign him to the AHL’s Abbotsford Canucks, he must clear first, something that could be tough as teams around the league will more than likely still looking for depth centermen well into training camp.Marek added that he’s curious to see if the Vancouver Canucks will have to trade him at some point so they don’t lose him for nothing, similar to what happened with Arturs Silovs, who was moved to the Pittsburgh Penguins last weekend.

“Jeff Marek: The Canucks faced a dilemma with Silovs; the next question is Linus Karlsson; do they hope they can sneak him through waivers?; Do they have to trade him as well, so they don’t lose him for nothing? – Daily Faceoff” NHL Rumour Report said.

Given that this segment was recorded a few days before the Dakota Joshua trade, the Vancouver Canucks could have an open spot on their opening night roster for someone like Linus Karlsson, unless Patrik Allvin manages to make another addition to the forward group this summer.

Karlsson, a native of Ekjso, Sweden, appeared in 32 games this season with the Abbotsford Canucks where he registered 39 points (23 goals, 16 assists) and went on to add a whopping 26 points in 24 games during the Calder Cup Playoffs.

As things stand right now, Linus Karlsson will have a pretty good chance of landing a roster spot right out of training camp and it’s certainly going to be interesting, if he’s still around, to see how he performs and if he’s able to impress Adam Foote adn the team’s coaching staff.
