Free eye checks in Surrey to remember Canadian Eyesight Global founder

A free eye check-up clinic in Surrey this Sunday (June 14) pays tribute to Anup Singh Jubbal, who founded Canadian Eyesight Global as a charity focused on helping people see better.
Eye-health screenings by volunteers and health professionals will be done during a four-hour clinic Sunday at Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara (8115 132 St.), noon to 4 p.m. Open to all, services are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Visit canadianeyesight.org for more details.
For more than three decades, prior to his death in 2021, Jubbal led humanitarian efforts to reduce preventable blindness in Canada and rural India through Canadian Eyesight Global, which has a team of surgeons, ophthalmologists, optometrists and community volunteers who host free health clinics.

In 1989 Jubbal began his charity work focused on free cataract surgeries in India. He later expanded his eye-health efforts at clinics in Surrey and Metro Vancouver. In 1997 he was given a Meritorious Service Medal by Canada’s Governor General, among other awards over the years including Service Above Self from Rotary International and REALTORS Care Award from Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver.
