Calgary police say a woman and a child were found dead inside of a home Wednesday afternoon in the northeast community of Temple.
Officers had gone to the home in the area for a welfare check just after 2 p.m., according to a police news release.
A woman in her forties and a child under the age of 10 were both found dead, police said.
An investigation is now underway, but police say they are not searching for any outstanding suspects.
Earlier Wednesday afternoon, police had issued a news release about an ongoing incident in Temple and asked members of the public to avoid the area.
Speaking near the home Wednesday afternoon, Chief Katie McLellan noted this was the second time in just over a month that officers are investigating the suspicious death of a child.
On April 30, two young children were found dead in a vehicle in the city’s northwest. Their father has been charged with first-degree murder in their deaths.
“These incidents are heartbreaking and have a significant impact on the families and loved ones of the deceased, individuals, members of our community, first responders and our entire city,” McLellan said.
