BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – She’s been boxing for fewer than five years, but this weekend Hannah “Hanarchy” Rapp plans to show the world she belongs in the ring.
“The first day I stepped in I was just like, ‘Oh, this is for me,’” said Rapp.
Rapp moved from Indiana to Bryan College Station about two years ago when her boyfriend got a job at Texas A&M.
She had established herself as a boxer back home before moving to Aggieland.
“I had to make sure that there was a boxing gym in the area cause if that wasn’t available, I wasn’t going to be moving,” said Rapp.
The former track and field athlete at Purdue found Coach Carl Perry from Bryan Boxing.
“It was funny because the first day she walked in, she was taller than I expected but smaller than I expected,” said Perry.
Perry said the male boxers were sparring the day Rapp came to visit. He asked if she wanted to watch, but she jumped right into the ring.
“We got her in there with Jackson, who is one of my amateur fighters who had some good, quality fights,” said Perry. “We saw Hannah, who was definitely a lot smaller than Jackson, and she just went to whooping on that boy. Everybody in the gym was like, ‘Whoa, what did we just witness here.’”
Since joining the Bryan Boxing team in 2024, Rapp has traveled to Houston and even Mexico to get fights under her belt.
Racking up eight wins and a draw professionally, she’s yet to lose a fight.
Rapp was preparing for a fight in early May when her team got an important call.
“We get a really big call for a world championship fight,” said Rapp. “Obviously, that’s no question. We’re taking it immediately. I don’t care who the opponent is. So few people get the opportunity to fight for a world championship.”
The training intensified. She’s been sparring in Houston several times a week to gear up to fight Tiara Brown Saturday night.
But boxing is just one of Rapp’s full time jobs.
“I work at Texas A&M for the Environmental Health and Safety Department as a fire and life safety building inspector,” she said. “All the buildings on campus have to be inspected for fire and life safety stuff, and that’s what I do.”
Rapp, who has a degree in environmental engineering, said she takes vacation days and some unpaid days off just to train.
“She is honestly one of the best professionals there is when it comes to it,” said Perry.
Coach Perry said the sacrifices Rapp makes, and her talent, help her rise.
They’re both excited to be among the pack of champions as women’s boxing grows.
“I’m prepared for this and I’m really excited to shock the world,” said Rapp.
Rapp is the co-main event in Orlando Saturday night.
