A severe thunderstorm is very likely to hit the Greater Sudbury area this afternoon, stretching into this evening.
Environment Canada’s forecast confidence is listed as “high,” prompting a yellow-level severe thunderstorm watch for Greater Sudbury and vicinity, Espanola and Manitoulin Island.
“Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts and large hail,” they cautioned, warning of wind gusts of up to 90 km/h and toonie-sized hail.
They caution that utility outages are possible alongside damage to roofs, fences, branches or soft shelters alongside a risk of injury.
Environment Canada urges people to go indoors when they hear thunder, as lighting can kill or injure people.
