2026 shaping up to be ‘special’ year for Surrey United Soccer Club

This year is shaping up to be a “special” one for a local soccer association.
Jeff Clarke, sporting director for Surrey United Soccer Club (SUSC), said with the 2026 FIFA World Cup in town, three recent club provincial titles, and the new facility the club is building at Cloverdale Athletic Park (CAP), 2026 will be a very big year for the club.
“The whole community, not just individuals but businesses too, everyone is rallying around the club,” he said. “This is a special year.”
Clake said there are too many businesses to mention everyone by name, but the club is extremely grateful for the help and support.
“There are so many of them,” he added. “I can’t even tell you how blown away we are with all the support. We have a special community here in this city. The players on the field are feeling the fruits of everyone’s labour.”
Those “fruits” are going up quickly at CAP as the new multi-million dollar training facility is being constructed at a rapid pace. The building will provide year-round covered training opportunities. It’s set to open this fall.
Clarke noted SUSC is planning some special activities for the community during the World Cup. They’ll be hosting open houses at the Big Red Barn at CAP where they’ll show Canada games live on June 18 and June 24. The clubhouse will be open to all members of the community, not just club members.
They’re also running several “activations” across the city during the World Cup. They’re doing a few at Central City and they’ll do one Canada Day on the Cloverdale Fairgrounds.
“On Canada Day, the mayor will be speaking down at the Agriplex,” Clarke said. “So we’re doing, what we’re calling, ‘March to the Agriplex.’ So our members will park at CAP and then we’re going to walk down 64th to the Agriplex.”
He said they’ll have a police escort and hit the Fairgrounds in time to listen to the mayor’s address. The walk will start at 2:30 p.m. and the general public is invited to take part in the unique event.
The mayor will speak at 4 p.m. and there will be a feature game on at 5 p.m. on the big screen. The World Cup will be in the knockout stages at that point, so the game will feature the winner of Group D or the winner of Group G in matches against a third place qualifier.
SUSC will be running an activities centre during that time. They’ll have their club tent up. They’ll offer tattoos for kids. There’ll be drills and special shooting games. They’ll have soccer bowling. And Clarke said many other activities that will interest families and children.
“Just different things to keep the kids active and having fun.”
