The storm that lit up the skies over Winnipeg this week will briefly turn out the lights at one of the city’s most popular attractions this weekend.
Manitoba Hydro announced Friday evening it will be cutting power to The Forks between 10 a.m. and noon on Saturday.
In a post on its Facebook page, Hydro said Tuesday’s storm toppled a tree, causing a pole fire that brought down two spans of power lines.
The utility said crews were working on the damaged pole Friday but will need an emergency outage Saturday morning to safely finish repairs.
In a statement emailed to CBC News, director of corporate communications Adam Dooley said The Forks Market will remain open as usual Saturday but with “limited to no service from shops and vendors during the short outage.”
Dooley advised those looking to visit specific businesses at The Forks to check with them in advance for changes to opening times.
