Final Fantasy VII Revelation has been announced for Switch 2, and it will be a simultaneous release across all platforms, including Switch 2, in Spring 2027. With that title’s reveal, we are heading towards the home stretch for the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy, which means trilogy director Naoki Hamaguchi might finally be able to take it easy for a bit…or not.
Even before Revelation makes it out onto the market, fans of the trilogy are setting their sights on a new remake. There have been tons of requests in recent weeks/months concerning a remake of Final Fantasy VI. With the vast majority of gamers being over the moon about the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy, many would love to see Hamaguchi tackle a remake for Final Fantasy VI as well.
In a chat with Game Informer, Hamaguchi addressed the calls for a Final Fantasy VI remake. While he doesn’t commit to anything, it does seem like Hamaguchi has interest in the idea overall, but he apparently believes the project might be better tackled by a completely different team altogether.
“I do see a lot of fans and community asking me to take on the helm for a FF6 remake. So, I’m seeing a lot of that floating online, but, you know, a Final Fantasy 6 Remake or any other remake, it could be me, or it could be someone else. Personally, I think that it might be in better hands if it went to another creator in Square Enix.”
