The 2026 World Cup continues on Day 4 as Groups E and F finally get underway on Sunday.
In Group F, the Netherlands and Japan delivered the game of the tournament thus far in a 2-2 thriller. All hell broke loose early in the second half as three goals were scored in 13 minutes. The Dutch held a 2-1 lead for a stretch before Daichi Kamada delivered an equalizer for Japan in the 88th minute to earn a draw and a point.

In Group E, Germany briefly allowed Curaçao its moment in World Cup history, but ultimately imposed its will in a 7-1 rout. After Livano Comenencia‘s historic equalizer briefly sparked dreams across the Caribbean island nation, the four-time champions responded with six unanswered goals.

Ivory Coast snatched all three points at the death, with Amad Diallo scoring a dramatic 90th-minute winner to lift the Elephants past Ecuador 1-0 in Philadelphia.
The day concludes in Monterrey, Mexico, where Sweden and Tunisia battle for what could prove to be a crucial three points.

Just when it appeared Group E’s second match would end scoreless, Ivory Coast found a breakthrough.
Amad Diallo scored in the 90th minute to give the Elephants a 1-0 victory over Ecuador on Sunday night in Philadelphia. The Manchester United winger finished off a late attacking move, punishing Ecuador after a tightly contested match that saw chances at both ends but little end product.
Ecuador held a slight edge in possession (52% to 48%) and threatened at times, while Ivory Coast repeatedly tested the defense and finished with a 15-12 advantage in total shots. The Elephants also put more pressure on goal, recording four shots on target to Ecuador’s one.
The match seemed destined for a draw after both teams struck the woodwork and squandered promising opportunities throughout the second half. Instead, Diallo delivered the decisive moment in the closing minutes, sending Ivory Coast to the top of Group E alongside Germany after the opening round of matches.

That shot looked like a sure thing from Gonzalo Plata, but Yahia Fofana gets his hands on it to deny Ecuador the goal.
That’s Ecuador’s first official shot on target in what has been a pretty futile offensive performance so far. Ivory Coast has been controlling most of the play, while Ecuador’s moments of momentum have been short and intermittent throughout this half.
That would have been a big turning point for Ecuador, but Fofana holds it off.
