It was a golden weekend for one of the local teams as the Nipissing District Soccer Club (NDSC) hosted the 2026 Junior Laker Fest this past weekend, welcoming 50 development teams from across Ontario for two days of youth soccer competition at Nipissing University, Veterans Fields, Amelia Field, ONR Fields and Graham Soccer Field.

The host NDSC Junior Lakers enjoyed tremendous success throughout the weekend, highlighted by a championship performance from the U13 Boys I-Model team.

The U13 Boys Junior Lakers captured the gold medal with a dominant 6-1 victory over Porcupine United FC in the championship match. The team completed the tournament with a perfect 5-0-0 record, outscoring opponents by an incredible 36-2 margin.

The U12 Boys Junior Lakers also delivered an impressive performance, earning a silver medal after a hard fought championship game against Collingwood United. The final was closely contested, with Collingwood narrowly claiming a 3-2 victory.

On the girls side, the U13 Girls Junior Lakers earned a silver medal finish in their round-robin style division. The team demonstrated strong growth and determination while competing against quality opposition.

91 games were played across North Bay as players in the U8 through U13 age divisions showcased their skills, sportsmanship, and love of the game. The event provided young athletes with an outstanding opportunity to compete against teams from a variety of communities while creating lasting memories on and off the field.

Organizers say events like Junior Laker Fest continue to provide valuable development opportunities for young athletes while showcasing the strength of grassroots soccer in Northern Ontario.
