SAN DIEGO — Trackhouse Racing is bringing an international, star-studded roster to Naval Base Coronado this weekend for NASCAR’s historic inaugural street race at the Qualcomm Circuit.

The four-car effort features the highly anticipated NASCAR Cup Series debut of Formula One and World Endurance Championship veteran Kevin Magnussen, alongside road-course phenom Shane van Gisbergen, rising star Connor Zilisch, and former road-course winner Ross Chastain.

Magnussen, a native of Denmark, will pilot Trackhouse’s iconic No. 91 PROJECT91 Chevrolet Dark Horse in a partnership with Qualcomm Technologies. The F1 podium finisher and pole winner follows in the footsteps of his father, Jan Magnussen, who made a lone NASCAR start in 2010.

“I’m coming into this with absolutely no NASCAR experience, and we haven’t had the opportunity to test the car on track beforehand,” Magnussen said. “Luckily, we’re heading to the only street race on the calendar, which is something I’m very familiar with from my years in Formula One.”

While Magnussen tackles a steep stock-car learning curve, his teammate Van Gisbergen enters Sunday’s 75-lap event as the undisputed favorite. The New Zealander has won six of the last seven NASCAR road-course events, recently tying Chase Elliott for the most modern-era road course wins (seven) with a spectacular comeback victory at Watkins Glen International.

Van Gisbergen is also a specialist in unmapped territory, having won NASCAR’s inaugural street race in Chicago in 2023 and the inaugural event at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City last season. He currently sits 14th in the Cup Series standings, six points above the playoff cutoff.

“The surface changes stood out to me the most,” Van Gisbergen said after a recent track visit. “Some of it’s really nice… then it’s really rough like Sebring, kind of with the big cracks and old asphalt. It’s going to be a real challenge to have a car that works across all kinds of surfaces.”

For the first time in more than a decade, the field will feature two fully branded Red Bull entries racing together. Van Gisbergen will sport a striking silver No. 97 livery, while Zilisch will pilot a bold blue No. 88 Red Bull Chevrolet for his 20th career Cup Series start. Zilisch, a proven road racer with seven wins in 10 O’Reilly Auto Parts Series starts, recently starred in NASCAR’s promotional mini-movie, “Race the Base,” on Prime Video.

Chastain rounds out the Trackhouse stable in a brand-new orange-and-white No. 1 Kubota Chevrolet. Chastain, who scored Trackhouse’s first-ever victory at Circuit of the Americas in 2022, is coming off an eighth-place finish at Pocono Raceway. He plans to lean heavily on his teammates to navigate the bumpy, unpredictable 3.4-mile layout.

“Finding the limit of the tire on a very chaotic surface like we’re expecting this to be is going to be interesting,” Chastain said. “I know how [Shane’s] car is built, and Connor is a great racer too. I’m lucky to be with the two best in San Diego, and then you add Kevin into the mix, so I’ll probably have access to the best road course data at-track.”

Official race weekend partner Kubota will host a special “Geared to Give” pre-race ceremony on Sunday at 10 a.m. local time, where company president Alex Woods will present five farmer veterans with the keys to new equipment.

Trackhouse drivers will kick off the weekend Thursday afternoon with an autograph session featuring Zilisch and Van Gisbergen at the ExtraMile on Midway Drive at 1 p.m. local time.
