New Langley SkyTrain span hoisted into place

One of the spans of the future Surrey-Langley SkyTrain line was hauled into place across 203 Street in downtown Langley City on Wednesday, June 17.

A section of 203 Street closed on Tuesday, June 16 and could be closed until June 19.

Most of the SkyTrain guideway – the elevated concrete spans – are being installed by a series of four huge launching gantries. They hoist individual segments about the length of a sedan into place one by one.

However, a stretch of the guideway near 203 Street is being built by the contractor hired to build the Langley City Station, at 203 Street and Industrial Avenue. The station is also under construction, on the east side of 203 Street.

These guideway components come as long, concrete pre-cast segments, hoisted into place by two cranes. A portion of the guideway west of the intersection was already installed several weeks ago.

The Surrey-Langley SkyTrain line, a 16 kilometre extension of the Expo line, is expected to open in the fall of 2029.
