The defending Grey Cup champion Saskatchewan Roughriders picked up right where they left off to start the CFL season, edging the BC Lions 31-27 in Week 2 action that doubled as the 2026 season opener for each squad and a rematch of the 2025 West Final.
The win came on the back of a strong offensive performance. Quarterback Trevor Harris passed for 417 yards and three touchdowns on 30/36 passing, spreading the ball out tremendously with Kian Schaffer-Baker catching eleven passes for 165 yards, KeeSean Johnson securing nine receptions for 131 yards, while Samuel Emilus caught three touchdowns as part of his six catches for 91 yards.

In front of the media on Tuesday, head coach Corey Mace recapped the team’s stat-sheet stuffing, but still gritty performance in Week 1.
“It’s the selfless stuff these guys do for each other so that somebody else can succeed. Obviously, the receivers had a great day, (Emilus) had an excellent day, (Harris) had an excellent day,” said Mace after practice on Tuesday. “But like we talked about before, it takes all twelve to get one thing accomplished,” finished coach, pointing out a big block from Emilus in addition to his three-touchdown night as an example of selfless play.
The Roughriders would love another dominant performance from the offense in Week 3 when they face a Calgary Stampeders team that beat them both times in 2025, as speaking to the media again on Wednesday, Mace addressed what he feels is a great time for the league in terms of parity.
“Since 2010 it’s been a tight race, constantly. What I think now is just parity across the league is tight. Which is good for the fans, good for the league, and really great for organizations, players specifically because everyone has got to be on their toes.”

The 1-0 Roughriders visit the 0-1 Stampeders on Saturday at 5:00 PM.
Week 3 in the CFL begins Friday night with the BC Lions visiting the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, and then the first four game weekend of the season resumes on Saturday with Toronto visiting Ottawa at 11:00 AM, and Edmonton hosting Montreal at 2:00 PM, before the Roughriders and Stampeders put an end to the Saturday tripleheader.
