An Ottawa Police Service (OPS) staff sergeant has been charged with assault following a road rage incident in Oakville, Ont.
The alleged assault occurred around 10:20 p.m. on June 12, after Staff Sgt. Walt Lushman, who was off duty at the time, was involved in a two-vehicle collision, Ottawa police wrote in a news release Friday.
Halton police have charged Lushman with one count of assault. He was released with conditions.
The OPS professional standards unit will also be looking into the matter.
“The OPS holds all officers to a high standard of conduct, both on and off duty, and expects their actions to reflect the trust and values of the community we serve,” the release said.
Lushman will have no “public-facing duties” while the incident is investigated, according to Ottawa police.
